Instagram: Managing Virtue

There’s a euphoria that comes from feeling virtuous about how I’ve been eating, and that’s where I am right now with the #Whole30. And as a #recoveringbulimic, it’s a feeling I have to be careful about managing. 🧚🏻‍♀️ That feeling (that “I am so healthy and wholesome and invincible!” feeling) is precariously similar to the euphoric feeling I used to get when I was restricting — the euphoria that almost inevitably proceeded a crash, a binge, and the aftermath. 🧚🏻‍♀️ This is when I have to be careful and self-aware. It’s OK to feel good about eating well; it’s not OK to tie my eating too closely to my self-worth. It’s important to fuel my body in a healthy way, but it’s not the only important thing or the most important thing. 🧚🏻‍♀️ For me, divorcing food from feelings — good OR bad — is really critical. 🧚🏻‍♀️ #emotionaleater #emotionaleating #bulimiarecovery #searchingformedium
